JESUS
Who is He?
What is He?
Why is He?

Mount of Olives Discourse:

Matthew 24:1  And going out, Jesus left the temple. And His disciples came to show Him the buildings of the temple.

Matthew 24:2  But Jesus said to them, Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, There will not at all be left one stone on a stone which in no way will not be thrown down.

Matthew 24:2 occurred in 70 AD becoming a fulfilled prophecy of Daniel 9:25-26, recorded about 600 B.C.

The stones here are the stones of the buildings of the temple site, see Matt 24:1 above and not the stones of the Wailing Wall of the Temple Mount.

The outline for Matthew chapter 24:

Matthew 24:3  And as He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, Tell us,

    1. When will these things be?

    2. And, What is the sign of Your coming?

    3. And of the end of the age?

Disciple here means student as they were not yet ready to be commissioned as Apostles.

These disciples were being trained to become Apostles because they were the right men for the Job and not because they were the elite of Israel.

Disciples, men and women who walk with the Lord are being trained by the Holy Spirit and God’s Word the Bible for different positions of responsibility in future times, Luke 16:10-11, 2Timothy 2:20-21.

Don’t forget 1John 1:9 as it is part of our walk with the Lord but it is not license to sin as the cleansing, if necessary can be quite severe, Hebrews chapter 12.

God does not want to beat us up but He wants us to walk circumspectly as His children and as an example to others, 1John 3:10, Ephesians 5:14-23, 1Peter 3:1-17.

We have the written word of God that came through some of the Apostles as well as other writers who were chosen by God for that purpose, 2Peter 1:19-21.

Judas Iscariot was chosen to fulfill the prophecy of Psalm 41:9, see also John 13:18.

Matthew 24:4  And answering, Jesus said to them, See that not any leads you astray.

As noted here, God through Jesus is warning His disciples not to be led astray by false Christ with their false teachings of which there have been many with many on the internet today who are very outspoken blasphemers.

The internet is not intrinsically bad but like other things it is a good thing used by bad people for evil purposes.

All believers, disciples have the Holy Spirit and our completed Bible with the last book being the Revelation which was recorded by the last living Apostle who was John, 2Peter 1:19-21.

God never ever contradicts Himself. The Bible and the Holy Spirit were given to us that we might understand the breadth, height, length, and depth of God’s plan for the ages, Ephesians 3:18.

A group of people called Gnostics, the word comes from a Greek word for knowledge and means they claim to have special knowledge but they are a source of false teaching.

Gnostics still exist today and they have people who promote their teachings, 1John 4:1-3 and 2:18-19, Jude1:3-4.

The many writings of the Gnostics including the book of Barnabas which appeared after the times of the Apostles as well as other writings were excluded from the Bible as they were not inspired of God, 1Timothy 6:20-21, 2Thessalonians 2:1-3 and 3:17, Galatians 3:1 and 6:11, 1Corinthians 13:9-13, 2Timothy 2:15-18.

The New Testament Churches were compilers of the New Testament Gospels and epistles, letters and they had the original documents, 2Timothy 4:13, Philemon 1:19, Galatians 6:11,Colossians 4:16, John 21:25 also called the Autographed Version.

We have copies and rely on scholarship for accurate translations into English as well as other languages as done by Wycliffe translators and others using older Greek manuscripts.

We have a copy of the Gospel of John dating to 125 A.D which is about 25 years after the death of John the Apostle.

Dating of manuscripts is done by writing styles including word usage, style of writing and papyrus or parchment used at that time.

Other methods of dating anything such as carbon dating are inconsistent and unreliable.

Matthew 24:5  For many will come in My name, saying, I am the Christ. And they will cause many to be led astray.

Matthew 24:6  But you are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See, do not be terrified. For all things must take place, but the end is not yet.

The destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D:

Matthew 24:3 #1

Luke 21:23  “Woe to those who are with child and to those who nurse babes in those days; for there will be great distress upon the land Judah, Matthew 24:16, and wrath to this people,

Luke 21:24  and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the Gentile nations; and

The End:

Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

The end here is the end of the age or times of the Gentiles, see Matthew 24:3 #3 above.

This will occur at Armageddon, the second coming of Jesus Christ which is followed by the first resurrection and the Kingdom of Heaven which will last for 1000 years, Revelation 11:17-18 and 19:11-21 and 20:1-6.

Age or times of the Gentiles:

Matthew 24:7  For nation will be raised against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines and plagues and earthquakes against many places.

Matthew 24:8  But all these are a beginning of throes, tribulations.

Matthew 24:9  Then, during the Gentile reign they will deliver you, disciples see Matthew 24:3 above, Luke 6:22, John 17:20 up to affliction, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name.

All of the Apostles except John and many church leaders and members all of which are Saints were murdered by religious authorities both Jewish and Gentiles through the ages and it continues today, Acts 6:8 to 8:3 and Acts chapter 12.

Saint comes from the word sanctify and means that we are in the world but set aside in the world, we are not part of the world, Ephesians 5:25-27.

James the half brother of Jesus was martyred about 10 years after recording the Book of James.

Many Church Martyrs are mentioned in “Foxe’s Book of Martyrs”.

This is an ongoing trend and will continue and get worse through the “Great Tribulation Period” but will never occur again as the perpetrators will all be in the “Lake of Fire”, Revelation 20:12-15.

Matthew 24:10  And then, during the Gentile reign many will be offended, and they will deliver up one another and will hate one another.

Matthew 24:11  And many false prophets will be raised and will cause many to err, 1Corinthians 13:8-13.

Matthew 24:12  And because lawlessness shall have been multiplied, the love of the many will grow cold.

Matthew 24:13  But the one who endures to the end, that one will be kept safe, saved.

Again, the end here is the end of the age, verse 24:3 above.  This is not spiritual salvation but is physical salvation as many Jews and Gentiles will live through the “Great Tribulation”, Zechariah 14:16, Matthew 25:34 and 25:40.

Matthew 24:14  And this gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the earth for a testimony to all the nations, and then, after that is done will come the end.

Again, the end here is the end of the age, Luke 21:24 above.

The Great Affliction:

Matthew 24:15  When you SEE the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (the one reading the Prophet Daniel let him understand).

The Prophet Daniel:

Months and days here are based on the Hebrew calendar which is based on the lunar, moon cycle with 12 months per year and 30 days per month, 360 days per year.

In this context 1 week equals 7 years and probably is Short Hand, a method of abbreviation used by a stenographer.

The Program:

Daniel 9:24  Seventy weeks 490 years are determined upon thy people Israel and upon thy holy city Jerusalem, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Daniel 9:25  Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem, Nehemiah chapter 2 unto Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks 483 years.

Jerusalem will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.

Daniel 9:26  And AFTER the threescore and two week segments, 483 years shall Messiah be cut off Die, BUT NOT FOR HIMSELF.

And the people, Rome of the Prince, antichrist that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood.  War, desolations are determined unto the end of the Gentile reign, times of the Gentiles, Daniel 12:13, Matthew 24:3 #3.

Sixty nine weeks, 483 years were completed at the “Triumphal Entry” into Jerusalem, Luke 19:29-44.

The last week, the final 7 years was postponed for the “Age of the Gentiles” which has now lasted almost 2,000 years.

The final week, 7 years will begin at the rapture of the Church, Hebrews 11:5, 2Thessalonians chapter 2, and end at Armageddon, Revelation 20:1-3.

The Church Rapture:

2Thessalonians 2:1  Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2Thessalonians 2:2  That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ has come.

2Thessalonians 2:3  Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except the Departure, Rapture comes first, and that man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition.

2Thessalonians 2:7  For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now restrains will restrain, until He, the Holy Spirit is taken out of the way, John 14:16-17.

2Thessalonians 2:8  And then shall that Wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the breath of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming.

Daniel 9:27  And he, the Prince, antichrist that shall come shall make a firm covenant with the many Jews for one week, 7 years: and in the midst of the week 3.5 years he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease.

The Time Line:

Daniel 12:6  And one said to the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be until the end of these wonders, until these amazing things are completed?”

Daniel 12:7  And I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, as he raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and half
